Utah Salt Flats Racing Association Announces Salt Update
The Utah Salt Flats Racing Association (USFRA) has provided recent updates for the conditions of the Bonneville Salt Flats racing course in Utah on social media. Read the full update below:
The USFRA went out for a preliminary course inspection yesterday morning at 10:00 a.m. and Bill Latin from the SCTA joined us around noon. We had a full crew, including our dragging crew, presidency and the Volks present to make a plan for prepping not only our course for Test and Tune but also the other two courses to help SCTA be better prepared for Speedweek, and even possibly some dragging on the FIA course.
The conditions compared to last year have drastically improved, with much less dirt present on the surface. Mother Nature worked in our favor over the winter. It is really rough right off the end of the road, but smooths out considerably the closer you get up the starting lines. The presence of doughnuts on the course near the starting lines is a bummer, but they thin out quickly as you go down course. The first mile, like last year, is a bit rougher than the rest of the course. Once you get to the two, it seems to only get better the further you go down course.
The growth is pretty minimal until you get down past the third mile, but pressure ridges are pretty pronounced past that point. The course at the fifth mile is actually gorgeous, and both Bill Latin and Larry Volk went clear down past the ninth mile on course one.
The course is still just a little too moist to put a drag on it but next week the forecast has several days in the 80s and into the 90s [degrees Fahrenheit], so hopefully it dries out nicely, and we can begin dragging courses shortly after that. All in all, it was a fairly positive look into what the Salt is shaping up to be for this season.
